Qatar University inaugurates new gymnasium
Doha: A new gymnasium at the Qatar University (QU) with world-class fitness equipment was officially inaugurated by President Dr Hassan Al Derham yesterday.
The event, which coincided with the National Sports Day, reflects QU’s commitment to motivate and encourage the community members to exercise and practice sports in their daily life. The new gymnasium, which is located at the Aquatic Center (A04), is equipped with world-class fitness equipment. The Aquatic Center consists of three swimming pools — Olympic pool, diving pool, and learning pool. It also contains a gym as well as a recreation center, which includes a sauna and hot and cold Jacuzzi. The facilities are available for both QU members and the general community with annual membership.
Dr Al Derham toured the new facility and QU student athletes also performed physical and swimming activities at the new gymnasium following the opening ceremony.
“Qatar University is committed to providing its community with a healthy and developed environment. We inaugurated a new gymnasium for male students and we will continue our efforts to develop the University’s infrastructure and increase our support of sports-related activities,” Dr Al Derham said.
The event was also attended by QU VP for Administration and Financial Affairs Dr Khalid Al-Khater, QU VP for Student Affairs Dr Khalid Al-Khanji, QU Chief Strategy and Development Officer Dr Darwish Al-Emadi, QU Student Services and Activities Director Abdulla Al-Yafei, Manager of Sports and Recreation Activities at QU Student Activities Department Asmaa Al-Naemi, and Aquatic Center Section Head at QU Student Activities Department Walid Dessouki, as well as members of the university community. QU faculty, students, staff and their families will celebrate the annual National Sport Day through a series of sporting and fitness events on the QU campus and at Katara today.
